Restarting IDE due to AS application has stopped working.

Using AtmelStudio 6.2, Visual Micro 1404.1 on Win7Pro with 16GByte memory.
Due board using both Serial(Programming) and SerialUSB(Native).

Can't say if this problem is due to Visual Micro or AS6.2, but often when I click on Start Debugging, a popup appears that want's to restart AS6.2.
It happens sometimes during compilation and sometimes during upload, after the message: Uploading to board using port COMxx.
If the reset button is pressed on the Due board, it also happens quite often, it feels like it is connected to the COM port handling.
This has been more frequent after using both ports in VM.
The message: Port no longer available has been shown in the "Other Com port window".
This is very reoccurring, when the com port is disconnected, this happens.
I have tried to disable friendly portnames, then it doesn't find any ports at all.

It also takes lot's of mips up to 26% and gets sluggish even after a restart.

This might be related:
I have been getting the message: Build directory not found, or similar.
If i click on the Start Debugging again, it works.
Thanks for an awesome tool, I bought a commercial license yesterday, because I really want's this tool.

Thanks for the message. Sorry to hear of the issues.

Can you confirm that you disabled both friendly port name settings?

"Build directory not found, or similar." sounds like a virus checker is interfering with our ability to write to your hard disk.

Yes, Confirmed that the problem seems to go away when friendly names is set to false.
But I need to test further to be sure.

However, AS6.2/VM seems to be very sluggish, when writing code the tool seems to go into to some heavy function that scans or builds code data, or something.
During this time i can't even write anything, and when scrolling the scrolling lags.  Undecided

Is there anymore settings that can be changed in VM?

Or is this problem in AS6.2?

Hi we can look into that however we do not have other reports of this. Which virus checker do you have installed?

I suggest switching on tools>options>visual micro>compiler>show builder folder. Then you will discover the temp build folder that visual micro uses such as users\yourname\AppData\VMicro. Please exclude this folder from the virus checker and see  if this improves the problem.

I have discovered one thing.

AS6.2 will not stop working if I uncheck the Connect checkbox on the "Other serial ports" before I click on the start debugging.
It seems that if this serial port looses connection because the download starts, the AS6.2 will go down.

So a workaround is to uncheck the "Connect" checkbox, and check it again after download is ready.  Smiley

This also happened when I was hassling with the other port, I was clicking too much on the connect checkbox.
It was a little slow to respond at that time and the check was not showing up in the box right away.

And I will try the Virus checker thingy, it's Symantec.

Hi!
I'm really sorry for my sparse responses, I have too much to do, like many do.
I have tried to get the virus program to exclude the VM directory, but I'm not able to do this due to a locked system. I'm not allowed to change these settings.

However.
I have disabled a lot of auto-features in AS6.2, and it helped a bit, so I guess that the lagging problem might lie in AS6.2.
The crash problem is absolutely connected to the Other com port, I have tried for several days, and if I disconnect before debugging, it works.
This is an ok workaround, as long as one remembers to uncheck the box. Wink

Hi,

What has the other com port got to do with debugging?

Thanks

Hi.
None I guess, but it is selected from the menu:
Tools->Visual Micro->Other Serial Ports
So my guess was that the port is also managed by Visual Micro.

If I uncheck the connect-checkbox before I do any download, it works.
So that's why my guess was that it is managed by VM.

Debugging itself is no problem, but this causes a crash. Embarrassed
In what layer the crash is caused by, I don't know.

I'll find it thanks. There have a been a lot of serial changes in recent version, I suspect the other ports is being included when it should not. Is the other port that you select the upload port?

Cool!  Cool
Well, I use the Due board, and uses the other port as SerialUSB and for second control and configuration.
I use the programming port for software download and main control, that port that is the one on the toolbar in the IDE.
