Installing on Atmel Studio 7

The current version does not appear to install on AS 7. It will install on AS 7 beta but if that is removed and replaced with the latest AS 7 the install complains that there are no products present on which it can install.

Running Windows 7.

Thanks

I guess from what you are saying you have not installed the official release version of atmel studio 7? I suspect that is the issue. The atmel beta isn't supported because it was based on vs2013, the official release is based on vs2015

Hi Tim
You're confusing me. I thought you were asking about my Visual Micro version.

My Atmel Studio 7 version is 7.0.594, from the Atmel site. How could it not be the official release of Atmel 7?

From what I can see you are supporting the 7 beta because I had that working last night. Its the full 7 release that I can't get to work.

Having said that the VS2013 version is working fine so I'll continue with that for the moment.

Strange, I installed the same file into the 594 version of As7

These questions might not be relevant but I will ask just in case:-

When you installed As7 did you opt for the web installer or offline? did you opt not to install the shell?

I did it offline, I'll check for the 2015 shell.

I do have the folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0

and Atmel Studio 7 starts fine so I guess the shell is installed.

Where does your install look to find the version of Atmel Studio on which to install itself - in registry?

Hi,

Yes you will have the .14 folder, I was just wondering what installer you used.

The vsix system is a microsoft system. The vsix file that you download for visual micro is actually just a zip. Inside it has a .manifest that contains the version of atmel studio it will work with.

I am wondering if you vsix installer is confused. It's worth downloading the visual micro vsix then right clicking it and ensuring that it is associated to the VSIXInstaller.exe in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE

Hi Tim
That worked fine, I right clicked on the vsix file and did an "open with" with the VSIXInstaller.exe in the  folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE

Many thanks
Nick
