Title: Upload with Atmel-ICE fails with error Post by Arecon on Apr 17th, 2017 at 9:42pm
Hi
I have set-up a fresh new installation of Atmel Studio 8 with the latest version of Visual Micro and everything else on Windows 8.1. When I try to use my Atmel ICE (latest firmware) to upload something I get the following Output: Compiling debug version of 'ATtiny828_001' for 'ATtiny828 (No bootloader)' Program size: 3.332 bytes (used 41% of a 8.192 byte maximum) (1,64 secs) Minimum Memory Usage: 291 bytes (57% of a 512 byte maximum) Uploading 'ATtiny828_001' to 'ATtiny828 (No bootloader)' using 'atmel_ice' Error during upload using programmer The uploader process failed The uploader process failed The uploader returned an error avrdude: Can't find programmer id "atmelice_isp" Valid programmers are: 2232HIO = FT2232H based generic programmer 4232h = FT4232H based generic programmer 89isp = Atmel at89isp cable abcmini = ABCmini Board, aka Dick Smith HOTCHIP alf = Nightshade ALF-PgmAVR, http://nightshade.homeip.net/ arduino = Arduino arduino-ft232r = Arduino: FT232R connected to ISP arduinoisp = atisp = AT-ISP V1.1 programming cable for AVR-SDK1 from <http://micro-research.co.th/> avr109 = Atmel AppNote AVR109 Boot Loader avr910 = Atmel Low Cost Serial Programmer avr911 = Atmel AppNote AVR911 AVROSP avrftdi = FT2232D based generic programmer avrisp = Atmel AVR ISP avrisp2 = Atmel AVR ISP mkII avrispmkII = Atmel AVR ISP mkII avrispv2 = Atmel AVR ISP V2 bascom = Bascom SAMPLE programming cable [...] I also tried setting "Atmel Studio Device Programming" instead of "Atmel-ICE (AVR)" as tool. This seems to get me a step further. I have to try that in depth... Best Regards Michael |

Uploading via Atmel ICE and the Atmel Dialog now works. But it is a bit more tedious than with Arduino. Maybe the upload could be simplified after the first upload was successful?

Hi,
When you install atmel studio it overrides the driver that the arduino ide installs. This is a long running issue between the two ide's unlrelated to visual micro. So if you have atmel installed it is best to you use atmel device programming. If you have looked at the atmel studio page on visualmicro.com you will see some useful tips that show how to tell visual micro to use atmel studi device programming instead of an arduino programmer.. http://www.visualmicro.com/page/Arduino-for-Atmel-Studio-7.aspx Does this now make sense? |

For the moment it works. Thanks.

Thanks for the update. I think device programming is a good way to work however I looked into this issue and the wrong programmers were removed from As7.
The latest release of visual micro has the atmel/avr programmers reinstated. Thanks for the report. |
