Title: Fails to download ProTrinket using USB method
Post by Richard Arndt on Jul 7th, 2017 at 3:08pm
Visual Studio 2017
Visual Micro (current version)
Adafruit Pro Trinket 5V 16MHz

Visual Micro fails to download ProTrinket following Adafruit's instructions:
https://learn.adafruit.com/introducing-pro-trinket/starting-the-bootloader

However, programming works with Arduino IDE using either USB or FTDI methods.

See attached VMDownloadLog.txt

For the USB method you need to select the programmer and enable the "always use for uploads" property next to the programmer selection.

There is a "micro programmer" toolbar for one click operation otherwise you can use the vMicro>Uploader menu,

Can you post the output for FTDI to show why that failed?

Thanks

As noted in the title of post, the FTDI method works.

Yes, as recommended, setting "Always use programmer for uploads" worked for USB method.

Thank you.

Hi,

Sorry it wasn't clear,

All boards have a usb port that is a standard upload port which might use ftdi or a.n.o upload method. So the syntax here is unique to adafruit and the trinket board.

This also suggested (at quick glance) that vm was failing for both :)

I have purchased one, it arrived today and will try it over the next few days.
