Title: Unable to get GDB debugging working
Post by atkinslg on Sep 8th, 2018 at 9:57am
Hi,
I am very new to the world of Arduino programming and C is a new language for me.I have found the standard Arduino IDE to be OK but am looking to be able to debug my code, especially to be able to step through it.

I have installed the Arduino IDE extension to VS 2017 and think it is a vast improvement over the standard IDE. The debugging facility has proved extremely useful, though I have read that the GDB debugger offers better options. I installed the Arduino GDB extension but I am not getting a Local GDB debugging option. Is there something else I need to install?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Visual Studio Community 2017 version 15.8.3
Arduino GDB for Visual Micro 2017 version 15.170821.1
Arduino IDE for Visual Studio version 1808.30.4
The C++ Android development tools are installed.

Thanks...
Lloyd

Hi,

There has been a lot of changes in the IDE's in relation to GDB. It will be re-done over the coming months.

In the meantime I am sorry that there is no support time available to help people with GDB .

I suggest looking for an alternative or use the serial debugger

Thanks

vMicro now supports a range of additional hardware debuggers out of the box.
