Title: Win10/VS2017 not showing recent projects on right-click list
Post by FrankP on May 31st, 2019 at 11:11pm
Win 10, VS2017  VM 1.1903.24

It seems that lately the list of recent projects that is displayed when I right-click my VS2017 taskbar icon is not getting updated properly, unless I right-click on an already open instance of VS2017.  The images below show the right-click list for an already open instance, and the list obtained by right-clicking on the normal taskbar shortcut.  My latest project is 'Adafruit DRV8871 Motor Driver Test.sln' and it shows up fine on the 'Recent Projects and Solutions' list from inside the already-open instance, and on the right-click list of taskbar icon for the already-open instance. However, it doesn't show up on the right-click list for the regular VS2017 taskbar icon, even after I go through the workaround of opening the project through the VS2017 'Open Project...' menu.

Also, it appears the existing right-click list (for the 'regular' taskbar icon) is fairly old; I have several newer projects than the ones that are shown on the 'regular' list (the longer one).

Any ideas why this is happening?  Is this normal behavior and I just haven't noticed until now?

TIA,

Frank

Yes also same on File>Recent in the IDE. If you would like certain solutions to be included in the recent list then open the solution and click the solution name in the explorer. Then click File>SaveAs, click OK?Save without changing the name and click OK when prompted to overwrite.

The save As is a workaround and one day we will find out how to force vs to add the current solution to the recent list.

Also note that after you have used "file>open>arduino project" for the first time for a project, then there is no need to keep using it. You can simply open the projects/solutions as normal because they are standard visual studio files. Visual Micro does not care how they are opened. By using the standard vs menus to open or create projects/solution they will always be in the recent list.

Note that the project/solution IS displayed on the MRU in the VS2017 IDE, just not on the taskbar icon's right-click project list.

Tim,

The 'Save As' workaround did not work for me:  I opened the project in VS2017, selected the solution line, selected 'File->Save As...', clicked 'Save', then 'Yes' to the 'do you want to replace it?' question, then closed VS. When I right-clicked on the taskbar icon the project/solution was still not shown anywhere on the list.

Doing something wrong?

Frank

It's a vS thing. I suspect the solution now shows in the IDE on the File>Recent menu and when used to open the solution it will then appear on the task bar short cuts list.

and if that doesn't work then you need to contact Microsoft. Tell them you are using standard VC++ (vcxproj) and solution.

make sure you have applied your vs2017 updates prior to contacting them via "Help>Report an Issue".
