Title: What options do I use when installing Visual Studio? Post by Lohmeyer Greenhouses on Mar 16th, 2021 at 2:53pm
What options do I use when installing Visual Studio Community. There are 'workloads' and other options. Your install video bypasses this part. Any help?

The only workload required is "Desktop Development with C++", which will be automatically installed with the extension when it is added.

The Workload Desktop Development with C++ includes many sub-options, several of which are ticked by default. The installation size varies from 1 to 7Gb depending on what is selected, so I also have the question "which sub options of Desktop Development with C++ are necessary for VM to work"?

Visual Micro only uses the c++ for intellisense in the editor.
The Linux C++ workload type should automatically be installed when installing Visual Micro unless the workload is already installed. The Linux (Gcc) workload is only used to provide the C++/Gcc intellisense based on the current Arduino platform. The Microsoft Linux package has a slightly misleading name for our usage, no Linux files are used for Arduino. Existing Users (pre Dec 2022) NOTE: Older Vosual Micro projects will still use the Microsoft Desktop C++ workload to function with Visual Micro intellisense. Create a thread in this forum if you would like help upgrading. |
