Title: Upload buttons for COM and OTA
Post by Acuario on Jun 8th, 2022 at 5:40pm
I usually use OTA to update my code. When I'm debugging I always have the serial debug window open connected via a serial port to the device.

Sometimes I manage to introduce a bug that makes my board crash (rare I know but it happens to us all..)
I then have to change from the IP address to the COM port to upload to the board. Then when it's all ok again I have to change back to the IP address.

It would be great to have the option to upload EITHER via OTA or to COM directly from the toolbar buttons to save the hassle of switching to and from COM to IP address.

Sorry for the delay. Open the Serial Monitor using the "Other" option. That allows you to leave the IP address as the main port selection.

Visual Micro supports multiple Serial Monitors therefore ports can be monitored unrelated to the current project.

Hi,
ok I know multiple ports can be monitored but that doesn't solve this problem.
For example; the 'default' port is selected as the ip address, the 'Other' is the com port.

When I do an upload it defaults to the 'default' port setting - obviously.
If I now want to (or have to!) upload to the com port I have to change the default port to the com port.
To return to ota I then have to change back again to the ip address.

In this case using the Other does not help me at all..

What I'm suggesting is an alternative button to upload to a separate port, for example the port selected on the 'Other' port setting.

Yes its a good idea. In the meantime you could switch on the "Save Board and Port for Config" as shown in the image.

Then drop down the configuration names and add one called "Release COM1" and "Release OTA" or "Upload OTA" or something else :)

Then you just have to change the configuration and click build/upload.
