Some possible reasons I can think of...

Have you set your arduino exe path?

Has the addin disabled? Look at "Tools>Addin Manager" and see if you have tick boxes for the Visual Micro Addin.

Do you have an arduino boards list on the tool bar. Is that enabled?

@path: set and checked
@addin_disabled: It is enabeld, but only 1 checkbox, the box command line is not hooked
@arduino-board: Yes, I have a board and changing the board and back does not change the behaviour.

One thing, I have to say:
I tried to "recycle" an Arduino-IDE-project with VS;
So, I created a new arduino-project and added the exisiting .ino-file

In a second case this morning, I tried to create an arduino-project from scratch.
Means, I added a new file with the special menue command.
This file has a cpp-icon - and - both menues are NOT grayed out, so I can choose a core-library  and my SPI-library.

But I did not find a way to correct the first project!

Please zip and email the first project to info[at]visualmicro.com

The File>New menu item is not project dependent so it sounds like something else is causing vm to fail internally. If you send the project I should be able to see the problem.

Please zip the sketch (ino) folder and subfolders

Thanks
