Arduino as ISP programmer option?
Nov 16th, 2016 at 12:23pm
Print Post
I just installed AS7 and VM and have previously used the Arduino IDE to program Arduino AVRs.  In the Arduino IDE there is a programmer option titled "Arduino as ISP" which allows you to run an Arduino sketch on an AVR that turns it into a programmer for other AVR chips.  I need to program a ATTiny841 chip with this method.  On the programmer menu I see 2 similar named options:  "Arduino/Leo as ISP (ATTiny)", and "ArduinoISP".  Which option should I chose to use an Arduino Uno as an ISP for the ATTINY841?

Thanks

Thanks.

The programmer names are read from whatever hardware you have installed.

What is the name of the programmer you use in the arduino ide?

The programmer name is "Arduino as ISP".  I use it by uploading the "Arduino as ISP" sketch to an Uno via USB and the mkII programmer option.  Then I connect the required programming pins from the Uno to the target AVR.  Now I open the sketch to be uploaded to the target AVR, and choose "Arduino as ISP" for the programmer.  Now it programs the target AVR through the Arduino when you choose upload.
