UTF-8 vs. Serial Monitor - problem

I am currently using version VM1803.6.3. for UNO, LEONARDO, etc. In this version of the VM program, the Serial Monitor does not work correctly for UTF-8 characters - neither for received nor for transmitted.

Exactly the same problem existed just a year ago - see http://www.visualmicro.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1489331854/4#4. ;
Unfortunately, I do not know from which version of the VM program the problem lasts this time.

Oh. Well another user reported the standard utf8  was missing the degree char so we tried a different setting in the last version that uses the encoding of the current windows pc.

It obviously causes a problem so in the next release it will be switched back.

The "degree" character '°', as mentioned in http://www.utf8-chartable.de, is coded
  • U+00B0    in UNICODE and
  • 0xc2 0xb0 in UTF-8
    and additionally
  • 0xb0         in "upper half" of ASCII code and in WINDOWS-1252/latin1 page
    etc.
