Thanks a lot Tim- that fixed it. As always, you're right on the ball!
I see the normally visible toolbar icons are now under the vMicro tab. I think I read something about this in the forum (before I was ready to update) that it's due to MS/VS changes, so I'll look around for that topic again.
Cheers

Great. The tool bars are still there. There are two ways to show them, either with vMicro>tool bar auto visibility" enabled, then they show when an arduino project is open, or switch off auto visibility and right click an empty tool stip area to show any of the tool bars with name that starts with "Micro"

The new vMicro bar is simply because vs2019 doesn't show extensions on the top menu anymore but the "icons" you refer too are the tool bars.

Yes, I see how it works now- plus the fact that, as you say, the "old" Vmicro tab at the very top is gone, but can be found under "extensions" tab. But most of the Vmicro settings now show up populating the toolbar, which is handy.
The new VM/VS2019 installation didn't ask me for my license #, and its been a long while since I had to enter it in VM/VS2015- and I don't see how to enter it now. I am hoping it cloned it from my pre-existing VM/VS2015, but maybe I'm running on a 30(??) day free trial. I guess I'll find out later!
Many thanks

The license activation is for the pc, not for each version of visual micro.
