The input capture unit is an under-appreciated peripheral lets you do things that make the 10-bit ADC look bad by comparison. One of those is that you can measure temperature by timing the reverse-bias charge decay of ANY type of diode. This makes high resolution possible without the op-amp you usually see for methods measuring the change in the diodes 'forward' voltage. This makes diodes a good alternative to thermistors for DIY builds.
