__vm files

Hi

I have been reading up on Visual Micro Configurations and Settings from here

I've drawn myself a diagram to show what categories are what (attached). Whilst there is discrepancies between what I am seeing within VM and what the above article describes,  I think I understand the separation. Can you confirm this drawing please.

But I am confused as to how this translates to files I am seeing in the __vm folder. And elsewhere.

Compile.vmps.xml
Configuration.Debug.vmps.xml
Configuration.Release.vmps.xml
Upload.vmps.xml

Inspection of the files show they define very similar settings. How does Visual Micro make use of these files?

I want to tailor a build configuration (not so much the devenv settings) across all the levels outlined, and preserve them under a Configuration Management tool (git for now). Is everything I need to preserve in the __vm folder? Or is it more scattered than that?

Are there settings not covered by the article above, which impact the generated build?

Thanks

SKC
