VisualMicro plugin and update from VS2010 to VS2012

Hi.

I want so share some information about upgrading from VS 2010 to 2012, just in case somebody is experiencing the same problem that I did.

I migrated my arduino projects from Eclipse to Visual Studio in order to test VisualMicro plugin.

Everything was fine with VS2010 Professional, but after upgrading to VS2012, the plugin disappeared from visual studio options. I tried reinstalling the plugin directly but didn't work. I tried again uninstalling and installing again, and I recovered visualmicro options.

It is really easy to configure, compile and upload sketches for different arduino boards (I've tried Arduino Fio and Mega).

So you are saying that after installing vs 2012 we need to uninstall and then run the install again?

Did you try the repair?

Thanks

I tried repair but it didn't work.

I also have to say that I installed VS2012, uninstalled VS2010 (just matter of disk space), and tried with the plugin whitout success, but I didn't reboot the PC.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling visualmicro plugin the following day, after reboot, and that could be the point (Visual Studio is a big change for Windows and may need a reboot).

Maybe or vs got confused. Sometimes pressing OK on the VS options windows sorts things out.

The way vs knows about the plugin is via "Tools>Options>Environment>Macros & Security". You will see that the installer adds the path to your Visual Micro program folder to the paths list.

The install is responsible for detecting which versions of vs you have installed and modifying the respective registry entries for the "Macros & Security" locations lists.

It sounds like the VS2012 install zaps the locations list.

So for anyone else with this problem, see if the "[Visual Micro Program Files]" path is in the locations list. If not you can add it manually and avoid messing with re-install.

[Visual Micro Program Files] is normally "C:\Program files (x86)\Visual Micro\Visual Micro for Arduino"
