Unable the create sketch error

Very new to all this!  I kept getting and error message in VS2008 when I attempted to create a new sketch.  " Unable to create sketch  Index was out of range must be  non-negative ....."   I attempted all sorts of fixes but nothing seemed to work until I installed the Arduino IDE to my desktop.  It had been located in Program Files.   I did set the path to the arduino.exe correctly but for some reason that doesn't work and it expects the arduino to be on the desktop.   Is this a bug or is there still somehting I don't have set up correctly.   Using XP VS2008

The plugin doesn't care where arduino is installed, this is some other problem that has not been reported by the 10's of thousands of downloads.

So we should look for a permissions error or something specific to your machine.

Maybe you could try again.

Q: Did you move the arduino to your desktop or re-install to the desktop?
