Installation with no errors doesn't work

I successfully installed Visual Micro once, but never managed to use it. I received the error message "unable to create Arduino Project for Atmel studio".

Next time I opened Atmel Studio 6.1 the Arduino menu options were not there. I have tried repairing, uninstalling and re-installing, several times, but no Arduino related menu option ever appears in Atmel Studio 6.1

The installation process appears to happen, and there are no error messages.

The computer has a quad core AMD Phenom and 8G of ram. The OS is Win 7 ultimate. There is sufficient disc space.

What do I try next?

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Sorry this has been painful for you. Visual Micro is a simple program and your hardware spec is way above what is required.

First thing it to see if the addin is loading. Please look at "Tools>Addin Manager" to see if Visual Micro is in the list? Are, at least, the first two checkboxes ticked?

Can you also confirm the exact Atmel Studio version please.

Thanks

Hi Tim

Thanks for replying. The version is 6.0.1996 Service Pack 2.

No addins are listed at all. I think that if they had been I would have been able to investigate further before running out of ideas.

Hi Andrew,

You are not the first person to download 6.0 by mistake, the atmel web site is a little confusing at times.

Grab AS 6.1 from here then please uninstall and reinstall vm. Running the vm install should give uninstall or via "control panel>add or remove programs>visual micro"

Thanks

Hi Tim

Thanks for the help, it works now, after a couple of snags. How did I read 6.01 as 6.1?

I found that the paths, even if they contain spaces, should not have quote marks around them. In some other contexts, paths with spaces do need quote marks, so I tried the wrong approach first time.

Hi Andrew,

Yes you are right it is confusing. Another user reported the same confusion so we will include some validation and a batter path example in the next release.

Thanks for the report, it's a useful reminder  Smiley
