AVRISP MKII not showing on Tool config screen

I'm using AtmelStudio version 6.1.2730 - Service Pack 2 under Windows 7.

When I go to the "Tool" tab and try and select a programmer, the only thing that shows up is "Simulator".

I have version 1.2.6.0 of the AVRISP driver installed. I've also rebooted several times too. The "Jungo" driver is not installed.

Under "Tools\Visual Micro\Programmers", I have AVRISP mkII selected. If I go to "Tools\Device Programming" in the Tool combo box, only "Simulator" is available.

I've rebooted, removed and reinstalled the AVRISP device driver to no avail.

Does anyone have a clue as to what might be wrong?

Hi,

Ignore the tool tab

Please click "tools>visual Micro>upload using programmer". This will make normal compile/upload F5/CTRL+F5 use the selected programmer

http://www.visualmicro.com/page/User-Guide.aspx?doc=Tools-Menu.html

Thanks

That's what I already have selected. When I compile and upload, I get "The uploader returned an error".

Oh I see sorry.

Please switch on tools>options>visual micro>compiler>verbose then attempt upload.

Then email the output to info[at]visualmicro.com

Thanks

Hi Terry,

I must be missing your point.

The output you emailed shows a complete upload with verify, the latter part of the output is shown below.

So please send a screen shot of the error so we can hopefully understand where it appears

Thanks

I hate to say this but since I put it in verbose mode, it uploads OK. Nothing was changed. In my original bug, only "Simulator" can be selected. I sent you an email with a screenshot of what I'm talking about.

Terry

Hi,

Okay maybe the clearing of the build files or re-start of ide cleared some initial confused build state Smiley Good to know it's working.

Visual Micro uses the Arduino compatible processes to provide upload capabilities. These are different to the tools supported by Atmel Studio which are much more complicated to use and require some reading to understand.

The device programming window where you can see the simulator is an Atmel Studio tool not a Visual Micro tool. Atmel studio supports different tools for different processors and is also makes intelligent use of usb queries to determine what hardware is connected.

You said that you have not installed Jungo on which case atmel device programming options will be affected.  Options ...

1)
You can have both arduino and atmel working with the same usb system but it's a bit fiddly to configure. We have a not very pretty but useful write up from a user here. It's not pretty because of the copy/paste facility of our blog, not the authors fault.

2)
If you are using an Arduino 1.5 Ide from Visual Micro. You can also install the Jungo drivers and use special extended programmer options that Visual Micro provides. See "Tools>Visual Micro>Programmers>Atmel Studio ....". The Atmel Studio entries in the list relate to programmers using the Jungo drivers and not the Arduino drivers.

Hope this makes sense
