Hi,

This is some sort of windows permissions problem for the windows msi installer.

Please download the Visual Micro installer to a folder such as my documents. Then try running the installer from there.

If that fails I will point you to a windows article that explains how to grant yourself permissions for the folder.

Thanks

Hi,

Either .net3.5 is not installed or you do not have permission to run the installer from that folder.

+ Please post the exatact error message

Tim,
we have been this route before - try this , try that.. No more.
No I am not sending you anything anymore, because....

About six months ago I loaded Atmel Studio and successfully executed Arduino program.
Than the Visual Assist quit working and when it did , at random,  my XP would crash.,
Exchanged few e-mails  between Atmel, Whole Tomato ( Visual Assist) Visual Micro and Arduino IDE only to find out that
a. these groups DO NOT communicate with each other
b changes in any of these apps are made irregardless how it will affect the overall function
c these groups do not have any interest to make the apps play together and WILL freely point fingers at each other
d. there are no common instructions ( U-tube stuff made by self-taught individuals do not count IMHO)  how these apps need to be installed and in what sequence , worth, there is no info on required SUPPORTING apps (VC 10 , .NET etc. )

My crashing issue did not get identified so I ditched  Atmel Studio all together.

Six months LATER I still cannot intelligently install all what is required to program Arduino AND in what sequence.
I am getting error message about missing dll - only to find out I need .net3.5 ( why , I have .net4.0 )
I cannot add Arduino IDE - “application does not exist” using Atmel Studio.

Finally I got it working and initialized FIRST Arduino sketch …. and the XP crashed.
SO I am parting with Atmel Studio again – same way as I did six months ago – until ALL of the groups are going to make a coherent effort to build first class application for programming ( not only Arduino ) I am uninstalling it ALL again.

Back to Arduino IDE programing blinking LEDs.

What a shame, but since nobody cares, so what.

Hello,

All I asked for was the exact error message so I can google it.

Quote:
missing  InstalUtilLib.dll

Your report is not correct. What are the exact words that appear on the screen?

I provide free software and a free service enjoyed by many 10's of thousands of users. The debugger sales are very small and just pay for some of the hosting etc.

Atmel and VisualAssistx are professional commercial companies who support many users.

It is important that we invest our time with Microsoft windows users and not with people who do not use normally use windows.

I think if you used windows for your normal pc use your software would be more up to state and more stable.

There are thousands of users of Visual Micro that do not have the problems that you have or that ask for help in a calm and polite manner.

All software can never be perfect but I can assure you that Atmel Studio, Visual Assist and Visual Micro are working well for many many users.

I am sorry you are having problems but I agree it is not worth your time or my time to consider this anymore. As I have explained the software seems to work for so many yet you have so many issues.

I think you have to look to your own software and hardware configuration and stop trying to blame other people and companies.

You have to be fair with the people who are giving you so much for free.

You have not been fair, very demanding, working with outdated and infrequently updated hardware/software. It's obvious from your previous posts that you are only using windows (normally Linux) because you want a better Arduino solution.

It is unfair to weigh down support channels with your terrible attitude demanding that everyone else be up to date and expert with windows. You seem to believe that I/we are here to serve you and your old or poorly configured windows machine for free.

No sir. This ends now. I have wasted too much time trying to be polite and trying to help you. You are a rude man who is incapable of answering simple questions. In any event, even thought we have many happy XP users, you can't expect us to support XP which discontinued.

Since you have given me such well though answer, here is a news for you

This piece of cobbled together FREE JUNK DID NOT WORK six months ago WHEN XP WAS still SUPPORTED, it crashed than  SAME way.

You did not care than and do not care now.

You are a cheap shooter - "works fine here" style.
Next thing you will suggest I need better ground!
Or better power supply, more memory or whatever.

BTW the outdated XP OS System events report reads "CTRL_ALT_DEL" and Systems shutdown been activated.

At that my friend is exactly what is happening.

Hi,

Anyone reading this forum will know that I am far from a cheap shooter. See thousands of people who have been helped by me for free.

You can't even be bothered to answer a simple question. Everyone can read this and it makes you look silly to say such things.

Hi,

the point is that when asked a simple question you start a rant and rave and do not give clear answers.

Your certainly had some strange errors a few months ago that no one else has reported (100,000 downloads in last 12 months). I sympathize with that and invested a lot of time in you. I did that for you for free. I am helping you not you helping me, please remember that.

Visual Micro supports a huge numbers of variations of Ide and windows platform and some users run on a Mac in a Virtual Machine.

You issue is that you come to us having not used your xp in any great way and with strange permissions issues and problems.

The truth is that if I spend too long helping you then I let other people down. Those other people provide clear and concise answers to questions and do not blame the world on Visual Micro. There are a lot of factors involved and Visual Micro pulls them all together.

Your latest issue is a windows permissions problem with the microsoft installer. Visual Micro does not produce the installer system, Microsoft does. I tried to help you and asked a simple question and as we can see in historic posts you then spent more time being angry and rude and still have not answered my question.

Some people just can't be helped and some people are just rude. You are both and I have no reason to need to assist you. I assist so many and I do that for free in 99% of the cases.

You simply just don't deserve or need any help. You probably have not applied all your windows updates so why should I try to spend any time talking about what might be the problem. If you had listened to my question you could have used Google to find the answer on a Microsoft support web site by now.

From the various issues you have encountered I would also recommend a regularly updated Microsoft windows installation.

I can't really help you anymore. Visual Micro works, a few minor glitches yes but it works well enough. I would normally find this solution on the web but I have more important things to do.
