Installed 10Aug2014 VM. Now VS/VM unusable, USB discovery disables

After installing latest version as of this date, when I launch VS 6.1,  a popup says

Visual Micro - Wmi or Network Port Discovery()
Network or Port discovery error. USB ports will be displayed with short names and network discovery will be disabled. Please re-start the ide for new settings to take effect. Visit the visualmicro.com wiki and forum for help.

I am frustrated that the new version did this to me, after the prior version was so good. I have not gone to VS 6.2 because of worry that it will bring new bugs. I only went to the new VS to get the bug fix for updating the .HEX file in the DEBUG folder (which it did, until this USB discovery bug).

At first I could restart and fight and it would again show a list of USB ports in use with boards (I have about 5 going at once, quite often).

Now all I get is that error pop-up, no USB ports listed.

I searched the wiki and  forum and didn't find a discussion on this.

Follow-up... exiting/restarting VS didn't cure.
I rebooted Win7/64 and for now it's working correctly.

I'm glad you sorted it and thanks for the update.

Sounds like windows had not fully closed atmel studio. You would have found an atmelstudio.exe resident in memory even after you closed it. If that happens again in the future you can terminate atmelstudio.exe using task manager and avoid a reboot.

Thanks again!
