why is my pc so slow with arduino

Installed Atmel Studio 6.1 then visual micro latest, on a laptop with win 7 home premium.
I normally use a win7 desktop.

Each time I run on the laptop, I see, in the output window
Quote:
This build would be faster if you upgraded to Visual Micro Gold Edition + USB debugger http://wwww.visualmicro.com

Note four "w" wwww
Is this a hack?
The compile time is 150 seconds on this core 2 duo 4GHz laptop. 40% CPU. Desktop same build: 3 seconds.
Something odd going on here.

alas. independent of the above, I tried a build of blinky example using Arduino 1.05 IDE. Doggy slow too. CPU still rather low. Something odd here.

No its just a typo we will fix in the next release Smiley

Visual micro uses the Arduino tool chain so that's the reason why you see similar results. Sounds like a virus checker or disk issue

What is visual micro gold edition with USB debugger? Is that the optional debugger add-on? I didn't recall the "gold" name, or didn't previously notice the promo.

I'll keep looking for cause of slowness... I have no virus scanner other than MSE which isn't new. CPU isn't max'd. Nor disk. Task/process list has nothing untoward I can see.

Hi,

Yes Gold is the debugger. The debugger/gold is the top level upgrade, I expect to offer some lower level options in the future for users who want less for less Smiley I can't work out what to call things at the moment. Maybe Bronze, Silver, Gold. Current paid users will automatically be on the top tier.

It might be an idea to run a check disk/scan disk and install https://www.malwarebytes.org/. Not sure if you have a hardware problem or software problem on the slow machine.

How many drives in the pc? Plenty of disk space free?

In the invitation, it says
Quote:

I purchased the debugger long ago and have it installed. What will cause the build to be faster as said? Do I need to purchase/obtain a newer "gold" version for this build-speed improvement? I have the latest VM installed.

I see, this means that you have re-installed windows or not activated the debugger on the pc that shows that message.

When you are using a paid version of Visual Micro that message does not appear.

When did you add/input your license key for that machine?

You are right. I'm mistaken.. the debugger license is on the desktop. Laptop doesn't have the debugger installed.
(brain is aging).

Why does the output window say your build would be faster if you bought the gold version? I thought the gold gave a debugger license, but this wouldn't affect the compiler / build.

Not enough people bought the debugger on its own so other features that are not available in the Arduino Ide are often included in the paid version. One of those features is a faster compiler which free users get approx. 60% of the time. The other 40% the message is displayed and a layer of cache ignored.

There is a fine line between support and the number of sales v's price Smiley
