Network or Port discovery error!

Have just installed the latest VM update - now constantly getting the dreded "Network or port discovery..." error.  Have not found any info on how to remove this - the displayed error message is somewhat generic and rather unhelpful.

I'm running VisualStudio 2013 on up-to-date Windows 7 64b. Now working with a Mega Pro - using 3 of it's serial ports via FTDI breakout boards.

It appears this error is benign - but would like to make it go away and fix whatever it is upset with.

Hello,

Go in Tools, Options, Visual Micro and set Network Discovery to False

If your VM also hang forever sometimes (or always), also set Friendly Port Lists and Friendly Port Menus to False

This means your windows wmi/device database is not working properly (normally corrupt and needs repair).

Visual Micro uses that to find the full names of ports. If you switch off the 3 settings described below then just the COMn names are displayed and you will no longer see the error.

Tim,

Maybe those options should be disabled by default Tongue

They auto disable if they hit an error but a corrupted wmi database doesn't always produce errors. Just returns crap data.

Unfortunately it works well for 99% of users. I'm looking for an alternative.
