Comm port disapears after a few downloads.  requires restart of atmel studio, and sometimes computer. was working before and all that changed was the project got bigger, with more arduino ino files.  disable/enable of com port in device manager corrects the problem.

atmel studio: 6.2.1502 service pack 1
ide name and version,  Arduino 1.0.6
arduino version:  Mega 2560
if bluetooth is active: NO
usb driver: Arduino LLC  1/4/2013 ver 1.0.0.0

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the report. I have also found that disabling and re-enabling the com port fixes this issue when it happens although it never happened to me before I switched on bluetooth on my pc.

I have also been helping a new user during the past few weeks who is also new to coding so he has been using the arduino ide and not visual micro but encountered the same problems. In his case he found that plugging into a usb3 capable port caused the issue, when connected to a std usb port and also not a usb hub there was no problem.

I also didn't see this issue with windows when using the 2009 version of the arduino usb drivers.

In my experience when the port is no longer available, if I open the arduino ide, it also can not see the port. Is this what happens for you?
