Cannot upload first sketch

I have just installed Atmel Studio 6 and then Visual Micro plug in. My Uno is connected and appears to be communicating ok with Visual Micro as the Serial Monitor is working but I cannot figure out how to upload or start debugging.  The icons for these features are not highlighted and pressing F5 does nothing.  I started by opening a previous working sketch (.ino) created in Arduino IDE and edited in Notepad++.  In all of the help videos or literature, there is never a situation where the upload or debug features are not available.  It is a mystery. Thanks

Hi,

Few questions/info. Not sure if it will help.

Does the name of an .ino file have the same name as the containing folder? If not then Visual Micro won't create a project and solution automatically.

How did you open the .ino file?

Can you post a screen shot of the ide with the .ino file open in the editor?

Thanks

ps: I probably won't respond now until tomorrow.

Your diagnosis was correct. The file was not in a proper folder. I fixed that & now it uploads properly. Thanks for prompt response.
