I have tried installing an earlier version of Visual Micro(1508.05) but it will not install as an add-in to Atmel Studio in Windows 10.

Keep getting this error. I'd appreciate any help from someone. I've exhausted the FAQs.
---------------------------
AtmelStudio
---------------------------
The Add-in 'Visual Micro Arduino' failed to load or caused an exception.
Would you like to remove this Add-in?
If you choose yes, the file it was loaded from, 'C:\Program Files\Visual Micro\Visual Micro for Arduino\Visual.Micro.Visual.Studio.Arduino.AS6.AddIn', will be renamed.

Error Message: The system cannot find the file specified.

Error number: 80070002

Hi

It's best to create your own threads because it's unfair on the original poster to receive lots of emails for a single question. Thanks

Thanks for the info. It was a useful test and shows that the older stable system is a problem too for you.

I am trying to understand why it is working for so many and expect it will be something to do with windows local appdata folder but not sure what.

We will be doing more win 10 testing over the next couple of weeks.

To be honest I would recommend Visual Studio 2015 over Atmel Studio. Aside from being a better Ide the new version of Visual Micro for 2015 doesn't use the old MS add-in system.

Thanks for the reply.
The main takeaway I have from this experience is the shear bloated nature of this system. It is way over complicated for something as simple as programming an Arduino. The official Arduino may be very basic and inefficient for more complicated programs but quite honestly it is a small price to pay. The lesson is keep it simple an avoid these professional IDEs when using Arduinos.

Hi,

For most, Visual Studio is clearly a better and more productive tool than the Arduino Ide. It's not bloated it is the size it needs to be to be as good as it is.

As I have said it is a shame your first venture into windows and also into the world of Ide's has been tainted with the newness of windows 10. I can appreciate that has given you a false impression but all I can say is that there is a reason why so many would disagree with you.

There is no doubt that VS saves loads of time for many every Arduino day and it's not right to get so frustrated over the installation of a bit of software.

Either way I have responded to your PM and said that over the next few days I am sure we will discover from another report what the issue is.

I will test with a clean version of windows 10 instead of a windows 8.1 upgrade. That many windows 10 users are working well with the app so there is some minority affected I can only assume it's the clean install people but time will tell.

It's up to you what you do. I have already wished you luck. I provide a free service for many and have done so for years and that's more easily done when people don't take their frustrations out on what is obviously a well documented and well used system.

I am here to help if need be but can use my time more productively if not.

Windows 10 has now been retested from a clean install and proven to work well.

This means that during installation of windows 10 you selected some option that we didn't. Seeing you have complained about the bloated size of Visual Studio I can only assume you selected the "on demand" installation or didn't install certain software components for Atmel or VS etc.

I have already stated that we can see many win10 users happily using Visual Micro so without better information we can not investigate further.

Thanks
