Is personal license (1 machine) switchable between PCs ?

Didn't find whether license is transferable in Q&A section, so...
Basically, I'm considering buying a license (1 machine) and wondering if I can switch that license between PCs? For example, develop on my home PC and when sometimes I have to go "in the field" with my notebook, can I transfer this license from home PC to notebook, so it's still only 1 machine working simultaneously?

Thank you

Hi,

I am sorry the license system does not currently support that. Hopefully in the future.

Thanks

Dear Visual Micro team,

so, when deactivating the license it is possible, to reuse it on a different PC, like described here:

http://www.visualmicro.com/page/User-Guide.aspx?doc=Tools-Options-Reference.html ???

Thanks a lot and a happy new year Smiley

I just want to say that this is ridiculously behind the times, and probably costing you a lot of sales.   It reads like licensing terms from 10 years ago when software was bought at Best Buy on CD-ROMs.

I like your product.  I like paying for software and getting full versions.
However, to say that I need to buy a 2nd copy so that I can go into the field and debug with a notebook?!?  That isn't just ridiculous, it is insulting.  I've talked with several others at my makerspace, and all of us (independently) have been just waiting for your licensing terms to come into the modern world before purchasing.  Many, if not most, hobby developers have nice development desktops, but also need laptops for in-field debugging.

We do this stuff for fun, not for profit, but we like supporting other software developers by buying software.  However, until your licensing terms make sense (IOW, one license actually covers a normal developer's normal usage.) we'll be giving our software dollars to some of the other relevant software projects for hobbyists.

And for the record: I will put my money where my mouth is.  If your licenses become sensible, I'll buy a 3-pack and donate the others to some of the younger (and poorer) people at my makerspace.

Hi SvdSinner

Yes, it's always up for discussion.

There are only so many hours in the day and it takes a huge amount of time to produce the mainly free plugin so we  just selected the easiest to implement licensing system at the time.

The pricing (and if it should be "lower and annual" or "lower and permanent") is something of a question at the moment.

Arduino and Microsoft are making huge strides which is great but also has huge maintenance and support costs.

Considering that so much is given free and it is used by so many we always ask ourselves what  needs to be done to  stimulate more reviews and blogs.

If makerspace teams are making good use of the free tool and finding it of benefit then it would be great to hear about it on the web outside of visualmicro.com. That really would be supporting this project. I am sure this would also highlight interest from groups that generally have more constrained budgets at the same time help fill a gap that I don't have time to fill, namely PR.

Feedback is always very welcome.

Checking back in.  I haven't been able to find anything definitive as to whether moving licenses between machines has become supported, has it?  Really looking forward to buying once the license is brought into the modern world.

I can post reviews on some maker forums (when licensing if fixed).  Additionally, I often speak at developer conferences.  (I helped co-found iowacodecamp.com)  I'd love to do some talks on modern microcontroller programming.  I never mind giving positive press to great products.

The need to allow licenses to easily move between machines has grown substantially since I posted last.  Developers are getting more and more mobile devices that they can use for field debugging, and replacing them faster.  I love using my dual-boot (Android/Win 10) Cherry trail tablet for field debugging of mcus, (it runs Visual Studio in Win10) however portable devices like this are routinely wiped, rebuilt, upgraded, etc. and without a simple way to reinstall it onto the same or different device, it puts your product at a huge disadvantage.

Most of the product is free and it rarely gets blogged. It seems linux users are.more loyal.
