Hi,
Some month ago I installed Arduino 1.7.7 from the .org, Atmel studio 6.2 with visual micro and it took some time to get it working.
Now I see there is a Atmel version 7 and I get also a message of an update of visual micro and perhaps there Arduino is an update too.
I am anxious to do these updates due to my last experiece and lack of time.
So what is the best way to go when I update. In what order should I install and what versions should I use for a Win7 computer. A link of all programs should be helpfull.
Thanks again.

Messing with atmel or visual studio can often take some time. I know because I have to install them all and all versions!! Smiley

The 6.2 version of visual micro isn't supported anymore. The 7.0 version of visual micro is an extension where as for 6.2 it was an addin which are more prone to issues.

You can install both 6.2 and 7.0 without clash so you won't loose your dev environment if you hit a problem. The visual micro extension for atmel studio 7 is installed separately but it will automatically use the settings you already have working in 6.2.

For the latest arduino versions you need the 7.0 version which also has a special application/ide location option for the "arduino.org 7x" ide's. This means that in Atmel Studio 7 you can have both an Arduino ide and an Arduino.org ide registered at the same time and easily switch between them with a few clicks.

If you have the free Visual Studio 2015 Community (with c++) installed then don't bother with Atmel Studio because Visual Studio is better for Arduino.

Hi Tim,

When I install the free Visual Studio 2015 Community does it come with C++ or do I have to install C++ seperately. When yes where can I get the C++and is it for free? thanks
