I cannot get Visual Micro to show up in Atmel Studio either, after a recent try at using Visual Micro with Visual Studio. Here are the details...

I have been running Atmel Studio 6.2 with the Visual Micro version released 2015_08_14. This has worked for the last year of so with no hitches. I then updated to Arduino 1.6.x from 1.0.x and I believe I got that to work (I remember having issues at first but after updating the path for 1.6 I believe I got it to work). Then I decided to give Visual Micro for Visual Studio 2013 a whirl to try out that IDE. I think that I removed my copy of Visual Micro from my programs and then used visual studio to install the extension (This may have been the guidance of the installer). (I'm not certain that i did uninstall visual micro from Atmel because i recall the visual micro toolbar being in Atmel still.) I got VM for VS working and successfully uploaded some code to both an Arduino Mega and Zero. I then tried to reinstall VM for AS. The tool bar was still there but when i tried to load old solutions AS would crash. 

My fixes have been to uninstall VM, uninstall AS, clean up registry issues using CCleaner and then reinstall. Atmel 6.2 seems to install fine, and Visual Micro says it installs successfully, but then never appears in AS. At this point I tried to open VS and it gave me some error about Arduino and then opened without VM. I have now removed VS, VM, and AS, reinstalled AS 6.2, and then reinstalled my copy of VM. Nothing shows up in AS. I then tried to download VM in AS using the extensions manager. This version of VM fails to install because it cannot locate a registry code. I have tried to update AS to AS7 but i have a Windows Update that has been failing me for the last year and a half and AS 7 installer wont let me continue until that has passed.

So after following the insturction in the FAQ the add extension security, I restarted AS and a message popped up that said "There was an error create and instance of the Arduino addin. Please report this to http://www.visualmicro.com...." and some more message details which I'll spare you from. Then Atmel studio would crash after start-up. I uninstalled VM and then downloaded the most up to date version of VM for AS6.2 from the extension manager and after installing everything is working back to normal. I'm not sure what happened, but all is good.
