Can't open Atmel Studio after Visual plugin installed

Hello,

I am a new user of ATMEL Studio and I want to use it for arduino projects instead of the arduino regular IDE.

ATMEL Studio works fine when I install it alone. But it completely freezes when I attempt to install and run it with the visual plugin for Arduino.

I run a windows 10 & Arduino 1.8.1 installed configuration.
The ATMEL studio is version 7.
I even tried with previous arduino 1.6.10 but unsuccessfully.

Everytime the ATMEL Studio starts up & keeps on "waiting for an internal operation to complete" as it's poped up. My only way of getting out of this is to kill the app from the manager center.

I tried to download the executable file from visual site AND to go through the "extension installation" process in the ATMEL Studio environment. Nothing works.

Can anybody help me fix this issue?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi,

The as7 version is due for an update but I have not heard of the issue before.

I can only guess that as a first time user the dialog that asks foe the arduino ide location is unable to display or is being hidden behind the ide.

Is it possible to drag move the ide so see if you can see a dialog behind it?

Finally, my recommendation is to use the visual studio version of visual micro. Install visual studio with the c++ option if you can. Visual Studio works much better than atmel studio and caters for more types of board.

Sorry I can't be more help except to say both IDE's use the same visual micro config so once it is configured in one ide the other ide won't need to ask any questions.

All atmel and visual studio versions can be run side by side.

Hello,

  Thanks for the advice.
  It finally works.
I did as you suggested. I installed MS Visual Studio & the Visual Micro plugin.
Now, when I use ATMEL Studio it seems fine.

Thanks.
