"Space" character in path

Hey People
So I bumped into a bug of some sorts in visual micro hopefully You can help me find a fix. I am trying to develop on the Arduino 101 using visual micro. I have successfully run a blink sketch using the default Arduino IDE. Visual micro is however not successful on the same and gives me the following verbose output.
Code (C++)
Select All
Starting download script...
Args to shell: [C:\Users\Anthony /bin C:\Users\Anthony nk1.ino.bin COM2 verbose ATP1BLE000-1541C5635 141312]
Serial Port: nk1.ino.bin
BIN FILE C:\Users\Anthony
Waiting for device...
Device found!
exit status 70

And stops at that point. Compare this with Arduino's verbose...
Code (C++)
Select All
Starting download script...
Args to shell: [C:\Users\Anthony /bin C:\Users\ANTHON~1\AppData\Local\Temp\arduino_build_748988/Blink.ino.bin COM22 verbose ATP1BLE000-1541C5635 141312]
Serial Port: COM22
BIN FILE C:\Users\ANTHON~1\AppData\Local\Temp\arduino_build_748988/Blink.ino.bin
Waiting for device...
Device found!
Verifying BLE version: ATP1BLE000-1541C5635
BLE version: verified

I believe it has something to do with the space character in my user folder (Anthony Brown) as visual micro navigates to the arduino15 folder where the board hardware lies.
I've used code tags to improve legibility.
Any help will be most appreciated.

Hi,

Thanks for the clear report.

You see this issue because the author of the hardware has forgotten to add double quotes around file names.

We see the arduino ide has converted the file names to windows short file names as a workaround for this problem.

It's not a very good solution because it makes support difficult with strange file names however it fixes the issue so will add to the next release.

Visual Micro already provides support for short files for named hardware, the idea being that all well written hardware will have more readable build output and less confusion.  So the 101 will be added to the list for the next release due over the next week.

In the meantime you can switch on "file>preference>external editor" int he arduino ide which allows you to have the same code open in both Visual Micro and Arduino, so it's a one click upload from the arduino ide.

Thank you so much for the quick and clear response. I will eagerly await the new release and as you have suggested use the external editor option meanwhile. Cheers.

There is a link to the new 1702.18 release in the release notes. Hopefully the 101 upload with spaces in the build path works better now Smiley

Wow. Thanks for the fix. I just tried it and the upload finished without a hitch.
