Uploader AVRISP

I have a new win10 computer with Visual Studio version 1706.25.5 and Arduino 1.6.12 and wish to use my AVRISP MKII ISP programmer but the uploading fails and when I look in device manager there are no drivers installed.
I searched for a solution but dont see a definitive answer.
What is the latest preferred ISP upload method?
I also have 2 ST-LINK V2 devices, I was going to try and turn one of them into a  BlackMagicProbe.

Advice on the best way forward would be appreciated.

Hi,

There isn't a recommended method. It's down to the hardware/core authors to decide what they support. Visual micro just reads their config files.

For the AVRISP MkII if you don't have your original install disk with usb drivers you can use win32-libusb to install a driver. It's annoying because you probably need to reboot win10 allowing unsigned driver install, then install the driver then reboot as normal.

other tips: atmel studio only

If you are using visual micro in atmel studio 7 it will install drivers but I suspect the arduino  mkII defs won't recognize them. In that case you would be using the visual micro "use atmel studio device programming" programmer option. The option allows visual micro to perform an arduino build and then seamlessly hand over to atmel studio when upload is required.
