USB port with OTA does not 'stick'

Does anyone else have this? On one computer (but not on another), I am not able to use the USB port to update my program on an ESP32, which has OTA enabled. I select the port (say COM7) and a second later it automagically switches back to 192.168.1.104, which I previously used to update 'over the air'. I cannot find a way to get the COM port stick instead of the IP address, and therefore I am unable to upload over USB or even just use the Serial Monitor. Is there a solution? Strangely, I can do it on my other PC but I don't see any differences in settings between the two.

Thanks for your answer, Tim.

Yes, auto select is enabled but it is also enabled on the other computer. On that one I am able to manually switch from IP port to USB port but on this one not.

When I get home I will test if there is improvement when auto select is not enabled.

You should not use auto select. It is for very simple configs and OTA is not simple.

The main issue with auto select is that some dodgy usb drivers continual send a connect message to windows. Often for a port number that does not exist. So this would account for the problem.
