Easy install via "Tools>extensions and updates>updates"

Doesn't work for me in VS2017 Pro, either using the above or the VS notification.

I get a very quick 'Downloading" window and then nothing.

@donald thanks for the update good to hear this is resolved.

@jgmdavies the new visual studio extension installer that Microsoft introduced for vs2017 isn't very nice. You have to close the ide before the installation starts and sometimes it takes a few seconds to starts after the ide closes. This has always been the been the way things work since vs2017 was released.

Please note:-

Microsoft is entirely responsible for the installation of extensions. A VS extension is a file with .vsix file extension which is just a zip file. The .vsix files are created by visual studio and when they run they invoke the Microsoft vsixinstaller.exe program that is provided wit Visual Studio.

There is an alternative download in the new releases and notifications section of this forum...

Thanks Tim, but it's not behaving like the many other VS2017 updates I've done.

There are no error messages, and no indication that it'll be installed after VS is closed - and indeed nothing happens when VS is closed!

I'm hesitant to use the non-VS download options, after @Donald said in his original post:

This worked, but all vMicro menus are dead now. Dropdowns are empty.

You are saying that you have ignored my recommendation of alternative download and have continued to try to use the microsoft gallery system. That the gallery system continues to fail for you?

Unfortunately I can't help you then and you should contact the Microsoft Gallery to determine why you are unable to download.

It might also be worth running a repair on your Vs2017 but to confirm:- The install process is unconnected to to any visual micro code, it is 100% a microsoft system. All VS extensions are just zip files that Microsoft handle.

Thanks

Please note than we publish the same extension to the Microsoft Gallery that we provide in our forum. That when running any install it is always the Microsoft VSIXInstaller that runs and performs the install.

Hi Tim,

Sorry, didn't mean to ignore any recommendations, it's just that I've had no previous problems using the VS update notifications and 'doing what they say'.

But I've downloaded and installed the VSIX file now and all is good - many thanks for your continued excellence.

Thanks again for the post. For some reason the gallery allowed the download but inside the IDE failed. Rebuilding the install using a later version of visual studio resolved the issue. Hence the 1902.17 update.

For future reference this is the gallery page that "tools>extensions and updates" provides quick access too

Hi Tim,

Just to confirm that 1902.17.0 works fine for me in VS2017 Pro 15.9.7, starting with the VS notification and proceeding to close VS and install.

Many thanks,
Jim
