Does VM Support the MiniCore Arduino Core?

I am using a ATMega328P in a standalone configuration (just the MCU, oscillator, and usb to serial converter. Previously in the Arduino IDE, I used the MiniCore Core from MCUdude: https://github.com/MCUdude/MiniCore to accomplish this. When I moved over to VM it appears that MiniCore followed along.

The hookup diagram for an ATMega328P for MiniCore has the MCU reset pin connected to DTR through a series .1uf cap along with a 10k pullup on the MCU reset pin as well.

I am having download issues which look like the reset is not being asserted. I can download after powerup but not again unless I cycle power. This happens using the LED blink sketch in both VM and Arduino IDE.

Is MiniCore supported by VM? If not, how does one hookup a 328P to use successfully with VM?

thanks
