Fixed: Problem with Programmer and Mouse

I have a problem with the mouse and / or the programmer. When I connect the AVRISP MKii, jumps the mouse around on the screen. If I connect the programmer or Arduino multiple times, the problem is solved. I have instaled the current driver. Who can help me?
Regards Willi

Hello,

1)
Please say what computer hardware and operating system and which version of visual studio.

2)
Does this happen when Visual Studio is closed?

3)
Does this happen in the Arduino IDE

Thanks

I had the same problem amongst others when I upgraded Atmel Studio. The drivers are over written with other drivers. I had to re-install all ISP drivers for all the units that I use. The problem was fixed

Hi Marius, thanks for that info. I forgot that my isp doesn't work since installing atmel studio.

I couldn't find my original install disk with the usb drivers for AVRISP MKii.

Do you know where to get drivers that work for AVRISP MKii?

Thanks

I just bought a new ISP so the drivers should be there. I am out for the day but when I get back I will have a look for.

Try at http://www.atmel.com/avrtools You should find the latest drivers there.
However, you are using Avrdude to program. I have some recollection of some dll that must be used to enable the port sharing of the ISP devices. I cannot remember but if you google it you should get some results.

Thanks Marius for the pointers.

Kucky, This is certainly a usb problem that atmel or arduino.cc should be able to fix. The Visual Studio plugin does not directly use the ISP. The plugin calls a program supplied with the Arduino IDE for that.

This is what I did on a win64 machine to fix the problem that I was having. It might help you.

I have no idea if this is the recommended option or not. I did not have the problem with the mouse that you had but my isp was not working.

1) Download the latest libusb-win32 from sourceforge. Just the bin version is fine. I downloaded libusb-win32-bin-1.2.6.0.zip.
2) Plugin the ISP and run the file called inf-wizard.exe from the bin folder of wherever you unpacked the zip
3) When inf-wizard.exe runs click next until you see a list of usb devices.
4) Select the AVR ISP from the list and click "Finish". You will be prompted to save a new .inf file. Select any location of your choice. I selected the same folder as the .exe
5) When prompted to install the new driver click "OK" and ignore all security warnings

After this process completed my avrmkII immediately worked in both the Arduino IDE and Visual Studio.

For reference, prior to performing these actions, I encountered "avrdude: usbdev_open(): did not find any (matching) USB device " whenever I attempted ISP upload to an Arduino.

Prior to performing these steps. The avrmkII showed up in device manager and was using the Jungo usb driver.

After performing the steps above the avrmkII showed up in device manager as using the "libusb_win32 devices" driver instead of Jungo.

Thanks for the answers. I'll try the same.
My System is:
Windows 64bit
Visual Studio 4.0.30319.
This error only occurs when Visual Studio is running. Yesterday have VS, Visual and micro USB driver installed. Unfortunately, no improvement. The message "Visual Studio is busy (ausgelastet)" is new.
Best Regards form Leverkusen (Germany)
Kucky

Hi Kucky,

1)
I think you Visual Studio version is the .NET version. The VS version is on the other side of the about screen. I am guessing it's 2010 and SP1?

2)
So with the isp connected but without attempting upload your mouse is going crazy?

3)
Was the Micro USB driver supplied with your AVRMkII?

Thanks

sorry
VS Version 10.1.40219.1.SP1
Yes, without uploading the mouse goes crazy.
What do you mean by "Micro USB driver"? Is this a special Visual Micro Driver?

The problem is not predictable. Appears unexpectedly, and not always.

The mouse problem seems to be fixed.
Thanks Jim.

The second problem is the serial monitor. He does not start.

Port failed to open
Connect and Dtr is checked.
Echo = none - Newline
Reboots have not helped.

Have you set the correct port? because you are using isp this port will be different to the isp port.

Can you send a screen shot please to info [at] visualmicro.com.

Are you sure the port is not already open in another software such as arduino ide?

Does the port open okay in the arduino ide?

Thanks

Thank you for the quick responses. The fact is that the COM port is in use by another device. The Arduino IDE shows the same behavior. That's me not noticed before.
In Device Manager, everything seems to be OK. Did you also ready to fix it? Wink

This is a windows problem that happened to me once a long time ago. The only fix was to power off my pc and re-start.

I think you said below that you tried windows re-start but did you switch off/on the power?

I also think this is a Windows problem. Also switch off/on the power does not help. Strange. But that need not be discussed further. Mouse is still OK.
Thanks
