cant setup arduino plugin

I have visual studio 2012.
Installed latest update of arduino plugin.
I have arduino 1.04 and the older 1.01(I think that's the latest version this plugin works with.
When I open visual studio I go to tool>options>…
But there is no visual micro branch and my setting up of the arduino plugin stops. Any ideas what I did wrong.

Hi,

The express versions of VS do not support plugins You need VS pro for now. In a month or so you should be able to use Atmel Studio.

Thanks

Sorry, I was confused and thought you were on win8. Win7 comes with net35 so ignore my request.

The installer is quite simple, just copies a few files, adds some reg keys and registered an api in the windows gac.

Please confirm you are attempting to install from the visualmicro.codeplex site? Can you download the msi, right click and "Run as adminstrator"?

Thanks

Yes from the codeplex site. From there the instructions just say to download the update file and install it then I can go into visual studio and start setting it up under the options. The instructions you just mentioned are different than that.so which is right for me?

My instructions are extended for you because you have an install problem.

Normally you just install using the big download button on codeplex and then, as you say, go to "Tools>Options>Visual Micro" and set the location of your Arduino.exe.

When you click the download button on codeplex you will have the option to "run" or "save". Normally users will click "run" and the installer will complete correctly.

However you have said that the installer stops halfway through the install. Therefore I am suggesting that you click "save" and download the .msi installer to your local pc. Then you will be able to right click the installer (using windows explorer) and "Run as administrator".

Please do this and report if the installer ran through correctly, if the installer raises an error or a message please let me know what it is.

After the installer runs you can open Visual Studio and check to see if the Visual Micro addin is installed. "Tools>Addin Manager" should show the "Visual Micro" addin and should have a tick in the first two boxes?

Great. Out of interest what was wrong? Can I explain something better in the install docs?

Thanks
