Before logging an issue, please update to the latest release of Visual Micro from the Downloads Page.

When Logging a Support Issue in the Forum, please ensure you have also:-

  • Enabled vMicro > Compiler > Show Build Properties
  • Re-Compile your program with these settings enabled
  		Save the new Output to a Text File and....
  • Click the Reply button and attach as .txt file OR
  • Click here to Email us with the file attached, and a link to your post

VS Restarts when Serial Auto-Reconnects

I have an EtherMega application that powers itself down and then reattaches itself to power periodically.  
If I have Visual Micro running on the board when this happens it causes my VS 2012 to shut down and restart.

I assume its something to do with USB enumeration but is there a solution?

Hi James, we will have to test this some more. Can you confirm that the serial monitor is open and the "connect" checkbox is ticked when this problem happens?

If yes, then in the short term please untick the "connect" when your board is due to reboot.

We will, at least, try to make a service release over the next few days that will allow you to switch off the new "auto-connect" feature.

Yes Tim unchecking the "connect" checkbox before a power cycle solves this problem.
My software knows when a power cycle is about to happen so it could disconnect itself but its unclear to me how you disconnect from the serial port.
Is this possible?

James, would you please try the latest release 1309.11. 

Please see if VS disappears when your board reconnects? That means leaving the "Connect" button checked.

If it is still a problem there is a new Tools>options>visual micro setting called "Serial>Auto Reconnect". Set it to false and Visual Micro will work as it used to where you have to use the Connect checkbox to manually connect/disconnect
