Error Message: "Unable to create Arduino Project for Atmel studio".

I have installed Version V6.1.2730SP2 . Win 8 platform. Visualmicro 1309.11.
If I try to open an existing Arduino project using file\open\sketch project, when I chose from existing projects it returns message "unable to create Arduino Project for Atmel studio". I note also than the list of microboards is not populated, but Arduino 1.5x is displayed in Micro apps box. Looking in the directory: C:\Program Files\Visual Micro\Visual Micro for Arduino\Micro Platforms\arduino15x, there is only one folder labelled Hardware.

I have noticed that I can open an existing sketch if I shutdown Atmel Studio and select it from recent files and use this to kick off Atmel Studio 6.1. However the list of microboards is still not populated. I have pointed the V M to the Arduino directory and this is confirmed by the sketch directory being displayed when I try to open an existing sketch.

clearly, I have not installed the plug in correctly, but didn't think there was much that I could do wrong. I have searched this forum for the error message without success. Can anyone shed some light on what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

Kevin

Hi,

Sorry you are having a problem and thanks for the clear report.

I think if we fix the empty boards list everything else will work correctly.

It is correct that the Micro Platforms for 15x contains so few files.

Couple of initial questions.

1) What path(s) have you configured against the Arduino 1.5.x application?
2) Which version of the Arduino Ide does 1.5.x point to?
3) Have you ever opened the version of the Arduino the path points to?
4) Is this your first installation of Visual Micro? Not an upgrade from an older version?

Thanks

Thank you for your prompt reply.

What an excellent set of questions. As I was going through them, I discovered that I was actually using Arduino 1.0.5 rather than 1.5. Confused by the references to beta versions on the Arduino downloads page.

Thanks for your help, I am now up and running!
