Which version is being installed?

ATmel Studio "Extension manger" repaired VisualMicro / Arduino  IDE installation.

Now I am missing all Arduino boards and the only option is to unistall / repair AGAIN.

How can I make sure I am installing the LATEST release of both VisualMicro AND Arduino using Extension manager?

Hi,

Normally when the boards are missing there is confusion over which Arduino IDE version you have installed.

Arduino IDE version 1.0.5 is the arduino 1.0.x option in Visual Micro and not 1.5.x.

Arduino IDE version 1.5.7 is the current beta of the 1.5.x format Arduino IDE.

The arduino.cc version numbers are confusing at the moment!

You will have the correct version of Visual Micro installed. It is show in tools>options>visual micro>version>version

So this means that in the Ide Location Configuration dialog you must selected the correct Arduino Ide 1.x.x version that you have installed and enter the path (folder) of the arduino.exe

edit: by the way, the most reliable way to "repair" is to click "remove" then run the installer again and click "install"

Apparently the most current version of 1.0.5 is r2 .
What I what I was asking was how do I know that Extension manager is installing that version. (But tha is ATmel's issue)

Never mind the screwy way Arduino is versioning 1.0.5 and 1.5.whatever. What is the PURPOSE of using three digit versioning and on top of the -rx?  If would be nice if those folks PUBLISH what each digit is for. It looks as they never get to 2.x.x. if they are going to squabble over rx single or multiple digit. Just venting.
My problem turned out to be that NEW install (-r2) went to directory I selected and REPAIR was reinstalling whatever release to the ORIGINAL first install directory.
So my conclusion is that Extension manager did half baked job and I had to got to Reset User Interface to fix it.

We have discussed this before, but I still maintain that to make all there applications to play together the developers need to pay attention to all of the supporting apps updates.
Without that is just does not look too professional, irregardles if its free on not.
As much as I panic every time Windows does "automatic update" automatic updates of VA, VisoalMicro, Arduin IDE is much needed to support all of these apps build around Atmel Studio.

Hi

Yes 1.0.5 r2 is the current release of the Arduino IDE

1.5.x is the beta which is required for the Yun and SAM it supports multiple architectures and the build process is almost entirely defined within the config files (out of the box)

I think 2.0 is browser based and used on the new embedded systems such as the TRE

As concerns VisualAssistX there is no update required because it is an integral part of Atmel Studio.

Visual Micro works with all version of vs > 2008, all versions of Arduino and Atmel studio 6.1/6.2. Visual Micro prompts you when an update is required and can be upgraded independently of all Ide's.

Generally speaking once you have installed Arduino and Atmel you do not need to upgrade very often, if at all. Windows updates whenever prompted I have never had an issue with any updates and run all Ide's and have all versions of windows except xp.
