After installation Arduino Boards do not show up

Greetings,
Brand noob here.  I just installed Atmel Studio and Visual Micro.  I did the steps to point to Arduino's IDE but I don't see any boards to select from.  I googled the tar out of it and no easy answer so I thought I'd ask you guys.  Do you know what I'm missing?

Thank You,

Mike Saathoff

Interestingly, it works great if I put the entire Arduino installation somewhere other than where the Windows installer put it and then point to that location. Any ideas why?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the report.

Sorry never heard that before. I can only guess that either there was a permissions problem preventing reading of files in the original location or the path was wrong.

Did you initially use the auto complete to select the path or enter it manually?

Thanks

One thing I'm positive about is that I had the path correct.  I did it several times both with the cut/paste and autocorrect (which was a nice feature BTW...)

Anyway, I left the old installation in place so I can switch back and forth at will to demonstrate the problem.  I can only imagine it's something to do with the permissions on the C:\Program Files (x86)\Arduino directory or maybe it doesn't like the funky dir name?

Works great in C:\Users\Michael\Documents\arduino-1.6.0

That's great that you left it in place.

Can you please open the file called version.txt in the "arduinoide\lib" and tell me what it contains.

Thanks

Interesting...The windows installer is 1.0.6
The version I got to work is 1.6.0

I was selecting 1.6.0 for both of them in the Atmel Studio configuration bar.    I didn't realize my windows installer file I got wasn't the latest version.  When selecting a matching version in Atmel Studio it works fine.   I re-downloaded it from the Adruino site and sure enough, the Windows installer is installing the earlier 1.0.6 version even though it's downloaded from the 1.6.0 location.

Hi Mike,

That's funny. When I made a sanity check earlier the Arduino 1.6 installer installed into a folder called "1.0.5 -r2".

Thanks for letting me know it works okay for you.

I suspect we are going to have a few months of this type of problem especially because 1.0.6 and 1.6.0 are so alike.
