Before logging an issue, please update to the latest release of Visual Micro from the Downloads Page.

When Logging a Support Issue in the Forum, please ensure you have also:-

  • Enabled vMicro > Compiler > Show Build Properties
  • Re-Compile your program with these settings enabled
  		Save the new Output to a Text File and....

Boards Manager not visible in 1505.13

After installing Arduino 1.6.4 and the Visual Micro 1505.13 release candidate I cannot see the Boards Manager in the Visual Micro Explorer.  I'm running Visual Studio community 2013

The Board Manger is just missing, just as the Manage Libraries tab is missing.

Since I'm using Intel Edison, I need to install the board, before Visual Micro is any use to me.

How can I get the Board Manager running in Visual Micro.

Make sure you have changed your vm app from Intel to Arduino 1.6.

Otherwise if.you have done that ...

Try uninstalling visual micro from control panel add or remove programs

Then run the install again

I've already set Visual Micro to use Arduino 1.6.

Just uninstalled and installed again. No Boards Manager visible, and of course the Intel Board is missing, so I can't select the correct board.

Hi,

Okay thanks. Here is some info that should fix things

1) You can install both the older intel ide and arduino 1.6 into visual micro. Then, with a project opem, simply switch between them using the tool bar. That way you get an easier upgrade process allowing you to compare the difference between builds.

2) The boards manager does have to initialise some things the first time it loads I suspect that this might be the problem. It works the same way as the boards manager in the arduino ide so open that "tools>boards>boards manager" but as a test don't download the intel cores. Instead open Visual Studio and see if the Boards and Library Manager then appear okay. This was a test I forgot to make yesterday before publishing the build.

3) If the boards manager doesn't appear then a screen shot of the Micro Explorer with Arduino 1.6 selected would help. email to info [at] visualmicro.com.

I just tried a first time install of arduino 1.6.4 and it worked okay without needing to run the arduino ide and mess with the boards manager (see below)

So there is something confusing here. A screen shot as requested below of your Micro explorer with the arduino 1.6 app selected would help.

I had already downloaded the Intel board straight from the Arduino IDE, but after downloading the board did not show up.

I've attached a screenshot where you can see the configuration set to 1.6 and the directory where Arduino is installed.

The screen shot shows you are not running a recent release of Visual Micro.

Below is the image from the "release notes" of 1505.13, as you can see we have new optional properties for Boards Manager



This suggest the upgrade did not apply correctly. Did you follow my instruction to use control panel to add or remove Visual micro? Then install the release candidate from the visualmicro.com downloads page

I've uninstalled and installed Visual Micro several times. I've used this URL: http://www.visualmicro.com/downloads/beta/arduinoforvisualstudio.msi ;

I've attached a screenshot of the programs and features, which reflects a 15.05.1300 version.

So, how to get the correct version installed?

Oh sorry I just noticed the astrix against the location field in your screen shot. That's the new system.

I will take a look at the conditions to show lib manager. 

This might suggest that when you uninstalled the applications.txt file in program "files/visual micro/arduino for vs/micro platforms" was not removed and/or not overwritten by the new install. The applications.txt file contains the flags to switch on boards and library manager. I don't think there is more to it than that but will check later.

If you want to try it, uninstall then delete the visual micro program files folder and then install. If the applications.txt is the problem I will rename it in the next release so no one else hits the issue. The ms installer can sometimes with difficult with .txt files but not usually this bad! I guess you have never edited it manually?

Thank you! That did the trick.

After uninstalling Visual Micro, I deleted the C:\Program Files (x86)\Visual Micro directory tree, reinstalled Visual Micro and everything seems to work fine now
