Renaming IDE in Configuration Manager not working
May 18th, 2015 at 2:11am

A small problem with my installation.  I installed Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2013, Arduino 1.6.1, and Visual Micro.  Everything works- I can create and compile programs with no trouble.
The "problem" is with the Configuration Manager.  I only want one IDE- the latest (1.6.1), but there is a dropdown list of "Arduino 1.0.x", "Arduino 1.5.x", "Energia", "Maple", etc.  I am happy to leave the non-Arduino stuff alone but want to get rid of "Arduino 1.0.x".  It comes back if I open the Config Manager again even though the IDE location is blank.  Also, I cannot seem to rename "Arduino 1.5.x" as "Arduino 1.6.1", which I would like to do.  I only have the 1.6.1 installation at the moment.
As I said, everything works but this is a small thing that bothers me, and I hope that someone can help me out.  I just hope that I was able to explain myself properly.
Thanks.

Hi,

I'm not sure if I understand correctly but here is some info that might be valid.

The configuration manager is for config purposes only and shows all possible ide's

Any ide that is given a location will then show in the ide list on the tool bar and in the micro explorer.

With the latest versions of visual micro you should have an Arduino 1.6 entry in the configuration manager. If you move the path from the Arduino 1.5 entry to the Arduino 1.6 entry then only Arduino 1.6 will show in the various "runtime" (non config) locations of Visual Micro

Does this make sense?

Thanks

The attached photo might help me to explain what I mean.  I did some copy and paste with Paint to get more than one drop-down box open at a time so that it might be more clear.
Tim, you said that any ide that is given a location will show in the ide list on the tool bar and in the micro explorer.
I have only Arduino 1.6.1 and ChipKit (MPIDE) installed.  In spite of this, the configuration manager drop-down box shows stuff that I have not installed.  Also, Arduino 1.6.1, which is installed, does not show up.  Even trying to alter "Arduino 1.5.x" to "Arduino 1.6.1" will not work.
As I said, everything is working OK- creating and compiling programs is flawless.  However, it does not look like it is operating as it is supposed to.  This is a minor thing but my OCD will not let it go!

Hi,

This means the upgrade has not been applied fully because there should be an Arduino 1.6 entry in the list

Please close the ide, uninstall visual micro from control panel add or remove programs

Then delete the "program files (x86)\visual micro" folder

Then run the Visual Micro install again

Thanks

OK, that did it!  "Arduino 1.6" now shows in the drop-down box.
I had tried those steps before but never deleted the "program files (x86)\visual micro" folder.
Many thanks.

Great, normally you should need to delete the visual micro program files for upgrade but for some reason the msi installer isn't replacing a visual micro .txt config file correctly. For the next release the file will be renamed so the installer can't fail to update it Smiley
