Actually the buttons are on other bars but ok if that's what you want

If you right click the toolstrip you should see a list of available bars. 

In the list should be "Micro Project" bar which contains all the buttons you thought should be on the Board bar

The project bar is only relevant when a project is open. The boards bar can be used to program bootloaders when a project is closed or to set the working board when a project is open.

There is also a "Micro Serial Communications" tool bar with the serial on it 

So I suggest removing the buttons you added to the boards bar and setting the standard bars to be visible.

All commands are also on the vMicro menu.
