I have a question about updates. I currently have a old version of VM. Do I need to pay for the latest version? Thanks.

You don't say how old or which version of visual studio

However all updates are always in the respective galleries.

For VS2012+ and As7 you should see a flag at the top of the IDE when updates are available and every few months Visual Micro shows a dialog about updates when the IDE starts.

"Tools>Extensions & Updates" shows you current version. "Tools>Extensions & Updates>Updates"  shows available updates.

Great. I forgot to say that the updates have always been free.

The paid version is mainly for the people who have benefited from this project and want to give something back.

Free users are actually expected to upgrade regularly to avoid issues when the arduino ide is updated but visual micro isn't been updated
