Before logging an issue, please update to the latest release of Visual Micro from the Downloads Page.

When Logging a Support Issue in the Forum, please ensure you have also:-

  • Enabled vMicro > Compiler > Show Build Properties

Upload error with SAMD21 & Atmel-ICE

Hi,

I'm trying to upload (an empty) Arduino project to SparkFun RebBoard Turbo board (SAMd21) with Atmel-ICE.

I'm getting the following error:
Code
Select All
Error: couldn't open edBoard_Turbo\Debug/ItamarArduino.ino.elf}
embedded:startup.tcl:477: Error: ** Programming Failed **

but the file exists in this location.

Full error log is attached.

Did someone encountered this error before? Or has any ideas for a solution?

P.S.

I can see a similar problem in this post:

but in my case, the file path looks OK except a single '/' instead of '\' in the path, is it important?
Is it a SAMD core problem or Visual Micro?

Thanks for the report.

From the log the same upload option  for Atmel-ICE should be available in the Arduino IDE as it is the standard programmer included with the board package.  Would it be possible to try/test the same "upload using programmer" via that route?

The link you have referenced suggests rolling the SAMD Core back, which should be simple enough to try as well if using the Arduino IDE doesn't alter anything.

Dear Simon,

Thanks for your message, and sorry for my late response.

I guess the problem is in the SAMD Core. I have managed to overcome this error by completely deleting "platform.txt" for this core. It's super weird, but it is working.

Thanks for the update on what has resolved the issue.

Whilst investigating another issue it revealed why deleting the platform.txt would resolve the problem, and we will update when a fix is available in the next release.

Please try the latest release (21.01.06.18) from the top of the below board, this should resolve the issue without the need for modifications:
