Error when loading one particular solution “Designtime build failed for project”

I wonder if anyone can help, as I have tried many things but I just cant solve this problem?

When I start one of my projects within Visual Studio / Visual Micro, the Output window displays a list of errors (all the same) concerning "traceddesigntime", please see image.

The project has different builds for different versions and they display the same errors.

All other projects I load, work properly and do not have this error.

The problem it causes, is that I can’t navigate to functions for example from the drop down, as the list is either empty, or it contains all of the functions from the master branch and not a sub branch.  Cry

Is the vMicro menu available when the project is open? Can you click build using the vMicro menu?

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, all Visual Micro options / menus are running and accessible. I can choose to build, upload and set options including debug.

Okay, please email your [project name].vcxproj to the email address in the yellow box above. This sounds like VS or a plugin has added something to the vcxproj that is causing some internal VS issues.

tip: This is a VS error unrelated to Visual Micro, therefore google results will also probably explain the problem.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your reply, file has been emailed.

I have googled this up, down left and right as I like to find solutions myself, but everything I read is that this was fixed in an earlier patch.

Regards,

Christopher

Thanks for the file. It doesn't show anything much. I think a zip of the project folder might help.

I found this arcticle, if you scroll down to the "Intellsense Build" section it shows how to switch on logging. However, sending your solution and other code files might avoid the need for you to follow this guide.

https://devblogs.microsoft.com/cppblog/configuring-c-intellisense-and-browsing/

One other thought would be to close vs, then delete the .vs folder from below your project and then reopen. Maybe the intellisense db is corrupt that would resolve.

Pleasure. I have emailed the folder entirely as a Zip. I also tried deleting the .vs folder but it didnt make any difference.

I can't reproduce and suspect a combinaton of factors. Please confirm/try the following:-

1)

Please confirm exact visual studio version from help>about and also use the Diagnostics button to copy/paste the list of installed extensions to here.

2)

I see a log that says one of you shared libraries (megaavr/softwareserial) can not be found. It might be worth removing the shared projects from the solution. They can always be re-added later if you want to work with the library code.

3)

At some point in time you might have opened the project in VS folder view as opposed to opening the solution. It should do any harm that the CppProperties.json remains from that, the CppProperties.json can be deleted from your project folder it is not used.
