Updating Visual Micro version

I'm a little confused as to how this is meant to be done, as there doesn't appear to be an update option in VS for VisualMicro (VM) - unless that is part of the problem.

I had setup the product as a trial, but due to other commitments I had not used it for a period and the trial expired.

On returning to using the environment (today) I purchased the product and decided to update VM to the latest release, which in my case was 22.09.05.11 - as I am running VS 2022 Version 17.3.6

I therefore downloaded and ran Visual.Micro.Arduino.Studio_22_09_05_2211.vsix after closing VS.

After update completed if I then go into VS Manage Extensions it still shows VM (Arduino IDE for Visual Studio 2022) as version 2022.905.2207 - which I am assuming is still version 2207, and not 2211. See attached screenshot.

I also note that the extension is flagged as 'Trial', which I don't know if is part of the problem, or if this is normal if you don't have perpetual licence?

I just created a blank simple arduino project so didn't think that it was necessary to follow the 'yellow box' requirements as I wasn't compiling anything - let me know if this is in error.

I would appreciate some guidance please.

Just to be clear the Updates(1) in the screenshot refers to Live Share 2022. Nothing to do with VM.

The versions available from the forum are often newer than the ones released to the Marketplace and Extension Manager within VS.

The latest stable is always the one available on the Marketplace / Extension Manager, which you are now ahead of after installing the forum release, so no update is flagged.

The extension is flagged as Trial in Extension Manager as it offers the users a free trial before purchasing, and is unrelated to the status of your license and activation. The trial software is the full version if an activation key has been applied.

OK Simon thanks for the clarifications.

I was going to ask if there was a method for verifying what version I am currently running (as I can't see anything equivalent to a vMicro/About), but I've just found version info at the bottom of the list produced by vMicro/General/Global Options.

Is there a similar approach to determining period left on licence (or registration date)?

Trial License Expiry is shown at the top of the vMicro > General > Global Options list beneath the License Key at the top, and on the latest versions at the end of the build output.

For annual licenses it is shown at the end of the build output for the last 45 days for which it is valid, on the latest versions.
