Before logging an issue, please update to the latest release of Visual Micro from the Downloads Page.

When Logging a Support Issue in the Forum, please ensure you have also:-

  • Enabled vMicro > Compiler > Show Build Properties
  • Re-Compile your program with these settings enabled
  		Save the new Output to a Text File and....

PC rebuild wont allow Visual Micro to load

AS my arduino development had slowed down considerably following a VS upgrade I did some PC house keeping using Ccleaner and was unable to use Visual Studio anymore, I had great difficulty re-installing it and could not Install version 2026 at all. Now I cant get Visual Micro to load.
Any advice, an error file from VXIX is enclosed which doesnt mean much to me.

Thanks for the report.

The log says the machine needs rebooting before the installer can run again.

Can you try restarting the PC and then see if it runs next time?

I closed VS and Re-started the PC a number of times.

Thanks, I hadn't realised that.

Can you try:-
1) Opening Visual Studio Installer.
2) Next to the affected Visual Studio instance, click More → Repair.

Then see if it is any better?

Do you have a registry key set at the below location (assuming a 64bit install):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\Setup\Reboot

How are you installing? via downloaded vsix or from inside vs 2026 > extensions?

The original log shows that visual studio is confused about where to run its installer from. its trying to use the vs2022 folder on your pc.

Running the install of visual micro from inside visual studio 2026 should automatically use the correct version of the microsoft installer.

If using downloaded vsix file then right click it and click "Open With". Then navigate/browse to where the VS 2026 (devenv.exe) program is installed.

Thanks for the details sent by email, and the registry shows this instance is still requesting reboot.

Option 1: Restart from VSInstaller
1) On the VSInstaller screenshot from your email you should be able to click restart from there which should clear the flag.

If this still doesn't work, you can open an issue with Microsoft directly about the problem (reccomended), or workaround this by forcing the removal of the flag (potentially risky).

Option 2: Force Clear of the Reboot Flag
NOTE - BE CAREFUL TO ONLY EDIT THE SPECIFIC KEY NEEDED
1) Navigate to the registry key as before.
2) Click File then Export to backup the keys
3) Change the value of the specific key for this installation (c3ad2f85) to 0 it should allow the installer to progress, though this is a workaround.

Thanks for all the help Simon, I think I have solved the problem.
So i was in a situation (probably something I did) where it seemed I had VS 2022 installed ok but I could not install VM by any means and Control Panel or Ccleaner could not be used to remove the VS 2022/2026 installed programmes to enable me to try a fresh installation.
The VS installer showed that I had VS 2022 installed and VS 2026 was waiting a restart to finnish the install, but a restart did not install VS 2026.
To resolve this I used the VS installer to remove the VS 2022 which left VS 2026 still waiting for a restart to install, which never happened. I then discovered  "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\Installer\InstallCleanup.exe".  This cleared the installer screen and I then was able to reinstall VS 2026 and to install VM from within VS 2026.
All I have to do now is upgrade my VM licence.

Thanks for confirming the issue is resolved, and detailing the InstallCleaner route to resolve it.
