Syntax Highlighting

I had to re-install VS2026 with a new instance and all the color highlighting on .ino files has gone.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing the extension but that didn't work.

Obviously, there is nothing to see in Build Properties....

Thanks for the report.

Just so we're clear, this was working before everything was reinstalled?

Can you try repairing Visual Studio to see if this helps?

If not, can you attach a screenshot of the IDE with the Solution explorer open and the project expanded?

Also please attach a complete build output as a text file with the below options enabled:
  • vMicro > Compiler > Verbose
  • vMicro > Compiler > Show Build Properties

Hi

Yes, it was working before Visual Studio got re-installed.

I tried a repair. No change. Screenshot attached.

There is no colour right from the start, ie I don't need to build anything from the issue to show, but a log is attached.

Hello,

I installed VS2026 with Visual Micro today for the first time and I have the same problem.

It's not just about syntax highlighting but whole code recognition, thus code completion, intellisense and whatelse. It's like the ino file is treated as a normal text file

Thanks for the screenshot and log.

Can you both confirm:-
1) Visual Studio version from Help > About Microsoft Visual Studio (Please press [Copy] and attach the output as a text file)
2) Confirm how the Sketch Project was created (or opened if an existing project)
3) Attach the VCXPROJ from the project for review

Hopefully this will give us more concrete causes as to why the issue is happening so we can replicate this and fix it quickly.

2.a.I) Creation: File -> New -> Arduino project
2.a.II) Creation: File -> New -> Project/Solution -> Arduino Empty Project (Visual Micro) -> Next
2.b.I) Existing: Double click on *.sln [project from VS2019. Happy user of Visual Micro since 2022 Smiley ]
2.b.II) File -> Open -> Project/Solution -> *.sln file
3) attached justAtry.vcxproj.txt [renamed due to file type restrictions]

Brilliant thanks, at a glance that all looks OK and ill check further in the morning.

One final test, if you create a C++ Console Application (which shows Linux beneath it in the File > New Project Dialogue), does the Intellisense/Code Completion work in that?

Thanks for the detail, can you check in Tools > Options > Text Editor > File Extensions, that there are mappings present for INO/PDE files?

These should be set as in the attached image.

Once set, restart Visual Studio and re-open the INO file and the syntax higlighting should be present.

We will look into why this setting is not automatically being set in the latest VS Update.

Brilliant, thanks for confirming it worked for you as well.

We will update how the editor mappings are applied and release a fixed version as soon as possible.
