Partially Sighted - Using JAWS with Visual Micro?

This is an email conversation now moved to this forum:-

Regarding the Jaws compatibility:
The first issue  has to do with the fact that Jaws cannot open Combo boxes
Here is how to reproduce:
Step 1:
From the Start page press ALT and press Right Arrow to Visual Micro menu

Step 2:
Press Up or Down Arrow and you will hear
“IDE Combo Box Arduino 1.6, To move through items, use Up or Down Arrow A”
If you press Up or Down arrow, nothing happens
Step 3:
If you try to open the Combo Box by pressing ALT+Down Arrow, it will not open it and it will kick you out of the menue
A sighted person can open the drop down menu and can select diferent IDE

If you repeat steps 1 and 2 above  and after pressing Up or Down Arrow  you press TAB you will advance to the next two Combo Boxes called “Board” and “Serial port”
These two Combo boxes behave the same way as the above “IDE” Combo box
They  will not open and you will not be able to make a new selection
But again, a sighted person can open the dropdown menu with the mouse
There are other issues I won’t bring up now, but if you can address the ones I described above I would appreciate it very much.

The nice thing about Visual Studio extensions is that we just define our user interface in xml and then Visual Studio renders using it's standard engine.

So all menus, bars, buttons and combos work the  same way for all applications.

I tried what you said and found it works okay

ALT
TAB to the "Visual Micro" menu
DOWN to select the first menu item, which is "Ide"
or F4 to open the Combo
UP/DOWN to select an Application
ENTER to accept the choice
or TAB to the next item on the "Visual Micro" menu which is "Boards"

@ Visual Micro

Hi Tim,
I tried your steps and it works but not exactly as on your system. When I land on Visual Micro tab and Down Arrow the first item is IDE, not Apps. I can then open the Combo box with F4.
Apparently this command is not a standard Jaws command to open Combo boxes. Jaws Technical Support told me that this must be a Hot Key implemented by Visual Micro. But it works, so I'm happy about this.  Are there other hot keys I should know about? Thanks

Thanks, yes I meant Ide applications (apps) but I have changed by post because you are right it just says "Ide" on the menu

F4 appears to work in all windows app that I have tried.

Microsoft do document most of this stuff on their site so you should find some useful guides.

It doesn't cover F4 on combox but this guide looks quite useful for other things http://visualstudioshortcuts.com/2015/

You can also reassign or assign shortcuts for most commands in "Tools>Customize"

Tools>Options is worth review (one day when bored)
